To open the season -- something a
little different for HCP -- a beautiful, moving drama introduced at each
performance by the playwright, a master storyteller and folklorist.
The play itself centers on three generations
of a mountain family faced with the difficult decision of how to best care
for their aging grandmother, Agnes, a fiercely independent 80-year-old who
is no longer able to care for herself. In flashback scenes narrated by her
grandson, we learn of past joys and sorrows of Agnes's life.
The bittersweet tale is softened with humor
and love, and sensitively depicts the characters and the mountain culture in
which they live.
